Most people who contract Lyme disease are never aware of having been bitten. Santa Cruz County Mosquito and Vector Control warns that with the cooler months between now and March, adult ticks are abundant, especially in damp grasses and shrubs.
“It’s here; I wouldn’t ever say it’s not here,” said Health District Director Donna Culbert, referring to the variety of diseases carried by ticks and infecting residents.
