One more plague added to the heat

Lift a houseplant to water it, and they’re there. They scurry out of a damp mop left in a corner, crawl out from under the sponge on the kitchen sink, down from the flowers cut to decorate the table, across the bathroom floor and, in their nocturnal insouciance, can be found perched on a toothbrush and preening in the mirror.
